What is EPSDT?

EPSDT is a type of early intervention service. It stands for the Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment Program. It focuses on age-appropriate preventive care. It is a series of tests or “screens” to determine if your child needs extra services. Screens can include a hearing test, vision test, routine lead screening, review of immunizations (shots), etc. Every infant, child, and adolescent should have an EPSDT screening when they have a physical exam. It is required for all children receiving Medicaid benefits.

Ask your child’s doctor or nurse what’s included on your child’s EPSDT screening when you take your child for a check up.
