Day Health Services
The Day Health Services program
is funded by MaineCare (Medicaid) and administered by the Office of
Elder Services (OES). Sometimes it is referred to as "Section
26." Day Health Services are provided at Adult Day Centers throughout the
state. This is more than a respite service: this program is designed to maintain
and maximize the abilities of an adult with disabilities and also allow
for the caregiver to have respite. Services are provided for one
to five days a week with a minimum of four hours per day. Services
may include:
- monitoring of health care
- assistance and supervision
with activities of daily living
- nursing and rehabilitation
- health promotion activities
- exercise groups
- counseling
- noon meals and snacks
Eligibility
- Be at
least 18 years old
- Eligible
for MaineCare (Medicaid)
- Meet
the medical eligibility for day health services
To apply for this service,
you must first apply for MaineCare (Medicaid) and then apply to the Adult
Day Center. A licensed provider will complete an assessment for you. The
assessment looks at:
- the need for "cueing" or
reminders
- assistance needed with
mobility and transfers
- help with eating, toileting,
bathing and dressing
