Adult Day Services

Adult Day Services is the name of a program that is supported by state funds administered by the Office of Elder Services (OES).  Respite services are provided at authorized adult day centers and include:

  • assistance with activities of daily living
  • snacks and a meal while attending the program
  • social activities
  • some transportation services

Eligibility

  • 18 years or older and not residing in a hospital, nursing facility or a licensed residential care facility,
  • Lack sufficient personal and/or financial resources to pay for adult day services,
  • Not have assets of more than $50,000 for an individual or $75,000 for couples,
  • Be ineligible for, or not participating in, the following programs:
    • MaineCare private Duty Nursing/Personal Care Services
    • MaineCare Home and Community-Based Benefits
    • MaineCare Adult Day Health
    • MaineCare Consumer Directed Attendant Services
    • In Home and Community Based Support Services
    • Respite Care for people with Alzheimer's Disease or Related Disorders
    • Consumer-Directed Home Based Care program

To apply for the Adult Day Services program you must complete a medical and functional assessment conducted by the authorized adult day service provider.  This assessment determines the allocation of respite hours.  The maximum number of respite hours allowed per week is 30 hours.
