The Family Support Program
The Family Support
Program is available to adults with mental retardation who live at home
with their family members. The program is administered through the Office
of Adults with Cognitive and Physical Disabilities Services (OACPDS).
Each of OACPDS's three
regional offices operate the program slightly differently. Because
services vary, it is best to contact each regional office directly.
The services they offer may include:
- In home respite care
- Out of home respite care
- In foster care homes (assisted
living facilities)
- In designated respite homes
- Funds to cover respite
care
Eligibility
To be eligible for Family
Support Services, consumers must be living at home with their families.
When you apply for this service, you will be asked to apply for MaineCare
(Medicaid). If you are eligible for MaineCare, this service will be supported
by MaineCare funds. If you are not eligible for MaineCare, you may be
eligible for a voucher from Family Support Services for $1,200/year per
family in support of respite services.
