Foster care is administered by the Office of Child and Family Services (OCFS) in the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).  DHHS contracts with six private agencies to provide foster care services in the state.  Respite services are included as part of the foster care program and a respite plan is developed for each child.  When people become foster parents they participate in trainings by the agency; these trainings explain the respite services to the foster family.  If you have questions about foster care services in Maine or respite services for foster parents, contact the OCFS or your foster care agency.
